Devin and I Are Headed to Iceland to Run the Reykjavik Marathon.....

.....Actually, I'm running the half-marathon and he's running the full route but the trip is to celebrate my birthday. What better way to beat the Texas heat and humidity in August than to run where they have the earth's cleanest air and purest water?

We're going with a tour group that specializes in marathon events and it'll be a relatively short trip--leaving August 17th and arriving in Iceland the next morning which is actually my birthday. We will have a luncheon and a half-day city tour around Reykjavik in the afternoon.

On the 19th, we're scheduled to do a tour in the countryside that features several huge waterfalls, a visit to an old farm village, a coastal village and the volcano that erupted in 2010.

August 20th is race day with the event starting in the city center and winding up along the coast. Devin will actually go into the interior of the countryside on much of his run. In the afternoon we're considering taking in a soccer match and that evening is known as "Culture Night"--the biggest festival of the year in Iceland with fireworks, music and all kinds of events going on. Since there's almost no night in Iceland at that time of the year, the party goes on until the next day. How's that for a birthday celebration?

On the 21st, we are doing a full-day "Golden Circle" tour of the countryside exploring Iceland's natural wonders--glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, and national parks. The day ends with a swim in the thermally heated lake known as Blue Lagoon.

On the 22nd, we'll explore around Reykjavik in the morning and fly back to the States in the afternoon. The hotel we're staying at claims free Internet so we should be posting some amazing photos. This should be a great trip.....
